New artwork installation at Barangaroo

Nike Savvas

Papillon

Exchange Place, Barangaroo

23 October, 2017 until 8 December, 2017

The latest artwork to be installed at Barangaroo is a large-scale installation by renowned artist Nike Savvas. Titled Papillon, this dynamic artwork is comprised of beautifully coloured ribbons welcoming pedestrians to Barangaroo. Take a moment from your busy day and enjoy this extraordinary artwork as the ribbons move freely in the breeze and evolve into abstract forms, reminiscent of a flag, a target, a sign, or a butterfly.

Trained as a painter, Savvas works across sculpture, installation, kinetic and light-based media and has completed several large installations for the Art Gallery of New South Wales and MCA in Sydney, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art in Melbourne, Leeds Art Gallery UK, and Southbank Centre London. The work expands on Savvas’ practice, it introducing a new colour palette and paying homage to German-born American artist Josef Albers, while referencing Pointillism, Op, Pop, kinetic and abstract art.

Papillon has been commissioned by the Barangaroo Delivery Authority as part of the annual temporary cultural program at Barangaroo and is a collaboration between Nike Savvas and Urban Art Projects.
