The Magic Flute
CHATSWOOD CULTURE BITES presents
Pacific Opera & Willoughby Symphony Orchestra
POCKET-SIZE OPERA THE MAGIC FLUTE by Mozart
Young artists from Pacific Opera return to the Concourse, Chatswood with the 2nd in their pocket-size opera series presenting one of the greatest operas ever written, Mozart’s THE MAGIC FLUTE performed with Willoughby Symphony Orchestra on Saturday 3 July.
Mozart’s timeless classic leads the search for truth and justice, love and enlightenment. Be enthralled by the adventures of Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno on their quest to rescue Princess Pamina. Lost in a foreign land, Tamino is pursued by an enormous dragon. To assist their mission, Tamino and Papageno are given musical instruments with magical powers, which they deploy to conquer the trials and tribulations placed in their path towards a deeper understanding of true love and happiness.
Distinguished baritone and Pacific Opera Artistic Director Peter Coleman-Wright AO said “Pocket-size opera or pared-back performances convey the essence of the original opera without diminishing its vocal and emotional power and is the ideal introduction to the wonders of Opera. A perfect moment in time for all the family with gorgeous music, wonderful singing, and the great sounds of the Symphony orchestra. Come and be enthralled”
The Magic Flute will be sung in German with English and traditional Chinese scene descriptions.
The Magic Flute was originally scheduled for the Chatswood Lunar New Year Festival 2021 in February but was rescheduled due to Covid-19 restrictions.
This production is produced in association with the Australia China Institute for Arts and Culture at the Western Sydney University.
